Mojo

I've spent the past week somewhat stressed out, both about big things (money, and a lack of) and little things (crafts). Gracie hurt her the paw pad on the back of her leg - also known as the carpal pad - sometime last weekend, which was scary but also fascinating. The canine body heals itself remarkably well, and after her initial displeasure at having to wear a white bandage because we don't have colored bandages like the vet, she's just fine. I am ready for the weekend, ready for quiet time with cold drinks and no pants (it's going to be, like, 80 million degrees this weekend).

I'm also a little melancholy that I didn't get to go to Sock Summit. I am so jealous of everyone who is going and trying to live vicariously through them. Justin and I had talked about going a few months ago, maybe spending the weekend in Portland and popping in for a class or two and the market. And then I lost my job, and then his job was cut back for the summer. We haven't been on a vacation for so long, at least two years, maybe more, and it will be quite awhile until our next one. My only comfort is the thought that everyone goes through these bad times, it's just something that happens when you're young, and I'd rather go through it now than later. I try to knit through all crises, just like Elizabeth Zimmerman said, but even knitting stresses me out.

These socks are the perfect antidote to stress. I LOVE these socks. I would not be opposted to making them again. They're the Mojo pattern and each sock is different. I knocked these out on the couch in a matter of weeks. They're just so squishy and comfortable. And they have the added bonus of looking a little phallic when unworn (at least near the toe).

But once you have them on, they are a delight.

I used Fleece Artist's Nova Wool, which I really liked, and knit on US 2 needles. I think the 2s produced a slightly looser fabric than I would normally like, but since the pattern was either ribbed or garter/stockinette ridges, it didn't make much of a difference. These will definitely be a favorite.
