Blankets I have known: Hayden's blanket

I started crocheting a blanket to match my couch a few years ago.  Red Heart, kind of an updated camoflauge color.  Crochet was my first love, but it's hard on my wrist and I can't spend hours doing it anymore.  So I just plugged along every few months, a row here, a row there.

And then we sold the couch.

I loved this couch.  It was a neutral olive green, plush and cushy.  It had a matching loveseat that didn't get much use due to its over-plush-ness.  Justin, on the other hand, did not like the couch.  Kind of hated the couch.  So my parents graciously gave us two of their old couches.  We're not entirely satisfied with those, but it's better than listening to Justin tell me how much he didn't like my very first piece of grown-up furniture.  We sold the couch and loveseat last year (it's a strange story - this girl bought them to put in her apartment so the guy she liked would think she had furniture.  Whatever.  She paid in cash.), but I was still working on this blanket, which no longer matched anything in the house.

After I was laid off, I decided this was as good a time as any to bash out 1700 yards in my stash and just finish the thing.  I love blankets - who cares if they don't match anything?

But the Red Heart, she is deceiving.  I used seven skeins and came out with a smallish, squarish blanket.  It would be okay for a lap blanket, but not much else.  I wasn't going to buy more yarn to finish this - I wanted it out of my stash for good.

And then our friends had a baby.  And I immediately knew that this square, rippled blanket would be perfect for a little boy to drag around the house.

It's hard to tell due to the yarn varigation, but this is a simple ripple pattern with all stitches in the back loop.  I can't explain it, but for all of my yarn snobbery, I really love crocheting with Red Heart.  It's so easy to rip when you make a mistake.  But I think I'm done with crocheting blankets for awhile.

It makes me a little dizzy.
